El Castillo Real, a true Mayan royalty.
At Dune Buggy Adventour, we make an ATV powered drive to Castillo Real, a mayan ruin hidden deep in Cozumel’s jungle. We make a ride on the ocean shore to make our way to one of the greatest vestiges that the great Mayan culture left in the island. El Castillo Real was used by natives for their navigation system. It was used as a look-out with four viewpoints corresponding to the Cardinal points (North, South, East and West) with the main entrance located with a view to every day’s sunrise. Come over to Dune Buggy Adventour in Cozumel Island to discover this amazing piece of Mayan architecture.
All about San Gervasio’s Park
On our Dune Buggy Adventour experience we make an open-road trip to San Gervasio. San Gervasio is located 7 kilometers east of the town through the transversal highway of the island. San Gervasio was originally found by european explorers during the 16th Century. It was built as a cult site to the mayan fertility goddess Ix Chel and made believers travel to make reverence to her. We invite you to drive our Dune Buggys and explore the mayan ruins of San Gervasio Park.
Military Use of Dune Buggys
Around the 1980’s, the U.S. Army had a whole battalion of armed dune buggys. These were expected to scout and harass enemy areas. Painted in green and brown camo, they were called Chenowth and they were equipped with machine guns, grenade launchers and even anti-tank missiles. They were built for one driver one co-driver and one turret-man that controlled the armory. These battle-buggys proved useful during the time of the gulf-war providing U.S. Navy SEALs a dashing speed and off-road movility, making their way to the first forces of entry to Kuwait City in 1991. We invite you to try out our buggys at Cozumel’s Dune Buggy Adventour.
